NCMFD Visits ISF Forensic Laboratories to Explore Technical Cooperation
The National Commission for the Missing and Forcibly Disappeared (NCMFD) visited the Internal Security Forces (ISF) forensic laboratories to explore technical cooperation on DNA testing and identification, as part of its efforts to strengthen national capacities and advance families’ right to know the fate and whereabouts of their loved ones.
During the working visit, the Commission’s delegation was briefed on the laboratories’ work and technical capabilities, including the procedures and standards applied to the handling, preservation, and analysis of biological samples.
Discussions focused on potential areas of technical cooperation between the NCMFD and the ISF in relation to DNA testing and identification, within their respective mandates and areas of competence and in accordance with Law No. 105/2018.
The visit forms part of the Commission’s broader efforts to strengthen the national capacities required to clarify the fate and whereabouts of missing and forcibly disappeared persons and to establish effective cooperation with relevant national institutions, while preserving the Commission’s independence in carrying out its mandate.
These efforts contribute to fulfilling families’ right to know the fate and whereabouts of their loved ones.
